Salactol Wart Paint (10ml)

Salactol Wart Paint is used for the treatement of warts, a verruca, a corn or a callus. Warts and verrucas are small irregular growths of skin caused by a particular virus. The virus is highly infectious and warts and verrucas may grow and spread, particularly if left untreated. The virus can even be transferred from one person to another.

  • Warts often occur on the fingers or on the back of the hands. You can recognise the common wart by the rough ‘cauliflower-like’ appearance of the surface.
  • Verrucas occur only on the sole of the foot, and are recognised by their tenderness and the interruption of the footprint pattern.
  • Corns and calluses are hard, thick pads of skin caused by pressure and friction – usually on the feet due to poorly fitting shoes, or on the hands. The skin-softening action of Salactol is helpful in the mechanical removal of this skin, again with the aid of an emery board or pumice stone

How Salactol works:

Salactol softens the skin growth, thus assisting removal of the excessive skin with an emery board or pumice stone. Salactol also helps to kill the virus within the wart or verruca.

Directions

  1. You should apply Salactol to your wart, verruca, corn or callus once every day, usually in the evening. Repeat the following daily treatment routine until your wart, verruca, corn or callus has disappeared.
  2. Soak the affected area in warm water for 2 to 3 minutes.
  3. Dry the area thoroughly with your own towel (to avoid cross-infection).
  4. Gently rub away any loose hard skin from the surface of the wart, verruca, corn or callus with a manicure emery board or with a pumice stone. In the case of a wart or verruca, whatever you use, remember not to let anyone else use it, or they could get a wart or verruca as well.
  5. Unscrew the cap of the bottle and, using the applicator attached to the inside of the cap (see illustration), carefully apply a few drops to the affected area, allowing each drop to dry before the next one is applied. Take care to avoid spreading onto surrounding healthy skin, as this may cause inflammation. Do not apply excessively. If the affected area is on the sole of the foot, cover it with an adhesive plaster. This enhances absorption of the active ingredients and, for warts and verrucas, helps prevent the virus from spreading. Elsewhere, treated areas need not be covered. Always replace the cap tightly after use.
  6. Every evening for the next week, repeat steps 1 to 4, after first removing any plaster.
  7. The length of treatment will vary according to the resistance and size of the wart, verruca, corn or callus. Some may be resolved in a relatively short time but successful treatment of certain warts and verrucas can sometimes take up to 12 weeks, so you must continue and not give up until the wart, verruca, corn or callus has disappeared (unless irritation occurs).

During your treatment, while Salactol is working, you may feel a slight tingling sensation and/or some mild tenderness. In rare cases, this may appear as a temporary blemish on the skin. If you experience undue pain or irritation, stop the treatment and ask your doctor for advice.

If you accidentally apply Salactol to normal skin, wipe it off straight away with a tissue, and, if necessary, wash the area. There should be no other ill-effects when using Salactol, but if you are in any doubt about your treatment you should talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
